Jaws meets Gene Colan

I’ve been a Jaws fan since I was eight years old, when I first saw the movie on the big screen in the summer of 1975. It remains one of my all-time favorite films.

The other day I got to play the recently released Jaws game by Ravensburger with some friends from work. Super fun! If you’re a Jaws fan and enjoy playing games this game is a must-own.

It’s clear this was a labor of love for the designers of the game. The attention to detail is really quite amazing. The inside of the box is even adorned with the pattern from the Mayor’s anchor-print blazer. (Apparently the Mayor’s jacket is so popular it has its own Facebook page.)

I also have a soft spot for the much-maligned sequel, Jaws 2. For a movie that should never have been made, it’s actually much better than it gets credit for. The bad rap it gets stems more from the awful sequels that followed it than from the film’s own merits. It’s a fun movie, respectful to the original. It boasts a rousing score by John Williams.

And it has one of the best movie tag lines ever.

As a kid I remember seeing ads for Marvel Super-Special #6, which featured Marvel Comics’s adaptation of Jaws 2, but never came across a copy of the actual book. With art by Gene Colan and Tom Palmer, the talented duo from the acclaimed Tomb Of Dracula series, I  knew I’d be in for a treat.

A few years ago I finally found a copy of the Jaws 2 adaptation online. (Thank you, Diversions Of the Groovy Kind!) And it did not disappoint. The artwork is gorgeous. The comic book adaptation is based on an earlier draft of the script, so it differs from the finished film.

Here’s that Jaws 2 adaptation in its entirety. Enjoy!
